ENCAC is a biennial meeting aimed at teachers, researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, builders, designers, consultants, public agency technicians and professionals working in the areas of civil construction, architecture, housing and other topics related to Environmental Comfort in the Built Environment. This year it will be hosted by the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie.

The event has the following objectives:

  • discuss social, ecological and environmental awareness and responsibility in the building and in the city;

  • contribute to the dissemination and documentation of the principles of bioclimatic architecture, environmental comfort, energy efficiency and sustainability;

  • promoting technological innovation in heating, cooling, acoustic treatment and lighting systems in the built environment;

  • discussion of public policies  for the sustainable development of the built environment.

  • Adaptation - recoveries and reinforcements

It is necessary to design interventions for the possible context of zero carbon and minimal energy consumption. Adaptations that face the design, construction, use and operation of the building and in the city, reuse and recycling as incremental and transformative actions in the sense of obtaining greater sustainable interactions between urban systems, climate risks and risk management, and in the advancement of social justice, just transitions and climate resilient development.

  • Mitigation - reuse

Mitigation involves actions to reduce the evidenced impacts and which, under the scope of reuse, manage to reduce energy consumption and adapt to climate change, through (re)using existing resources and efficient energy production. The mitigation measures influence the degree of vulnerability of buildings to the future climate and, thus, the necessary adaptation in the environment corroborate to achieve the goals of reducing emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GEEG).

  • Resilience - transformations

Resilience is an iterative process of systemic change that integrates mitigation and adaptation efforts. The building and the city offer a limited opportunity to work towards widespread and transformative adaptation and resilient development. Current models of urbanization and construction are dependent on high carbon consumption and do not eliminate city vulnerabilities.
